Role Overview
We are seeking a Business Development Manager or Associate Director to lead our business development efforts across the West Coast, with a focus on the San Diego and Bay Area innovation hubs. This is a high-impact, field-facing role that combines strategic lead generation with hands-on relationship building.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in business development for a CRO or life sciences service provider and a strong network within California’s early-stage biotech community.
Missions
- Proactively identify and pursue new biotech and mid-pharma accounts in the San Diego, San Francisco, and greater West Coast regions
- Promote Novalix’s integrated and stand-alone early discovery capabilities, including:
- DEL screening
- Medicinal and synthetic chemistry
- Biophysics and cryo-EM
- Pharmacology and DMPK
- Support and expand existing account relationships
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (scientific teams, proposal managers, lead generation) to deliver client-focused proposals
- Represent Novalix at regional conferences, industry events, and partner visits
- Maintain up-to-date pipeline data and forecasting in CRM
Profile
- Minimum 3 years of business development experience in a CRO, CDMO, or preclinical services organization
- Scientific background required (Bachelor’s in life sciences minimum; advanced degree preferred)
- Familiarity with early discovery and hit-to-lead outsourcing models
- Understanding of California’s biotech ecosystem and emerging companies landscape
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
- Driven, self-motivated, and able to work independently while staying connected to the global team
